Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) is a neuropeptide isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood that promotes delta-wave (slow-wave) sleep — the deepest, most physiologically restorative phase of the sleep cycle. Its mechanism is hypothalamic: it modulates the sleep-wake regulatory centers to increase delta-wave amplitude without causing sedation, which means it restores sleep architecture rather than forcing unconsciousness.
